My One and Oni
Review by Linda Yau
When Alexi was ten years old he was always thinking that a monster lived in his closet. This made him scared of sleeping. Monsters aren't supposed to exist, but in this room and story there is really a monster living in the house. Kai is a handsome and sexy Japanese oni who guarded over Alexi's maternal family for several generations.
Flash forward fifteen years later, Alexi has returned home from college, gay and busy with academics. During the first night, while Alexi was sleeping, he thought that he was having a wet dream when in reality; Kai had some action with him. The second night is when Alexi sees him for the first time, naked and in the shower. Apparently Kai had fallen in love with him and Kai does follow Alexi back to his college determine to stay with him for life.
Confusion clarification, Kai keeps on referring to Alexi as "bo-yah." I thought back to the expression of booyah as spoken in Final Fantasy X, but this is not the meaning, so I deduce this word to be an endearment of boy pronounced in Japanese style.
I can say that this was a comforting read of an erotica, pretty short only 68 pages. I am getting use to the American gay erotica, where there are plenty of words used like, "fuck," and "cock." The only thing I would complain about is how Americanize this story reads. I mean Kai is a Japanese oni, but not that much mention on any Japanese aspect, makes. Also for the most part Alexi whines somewhat, so this story reads out like a cheesy romance erotica. Perhaps this story is one though. I wouldn't complain.
There was a sex scene at the library that reminded me a bit of a scene from Junjou Egoist, which is a current anime release in Japan. Kai read pretty sexy in that scene, which I enjoyed immensely.
In the latter part of the story, there was a character introduction of Rin, a kitsune and friend of Kai. I wouldn't mind reading an additional story of him.
