Miscellanea and Ephemeron [Previous entry: "Future of Manga panel survey with Audry Taylor of Go! Media"] [Main Index] [Next entry: "Yaoi review: Yakuza in Love (volume 2)"] 06/16/2008 Archived Entry: "e-Book Review: Christmas with Gary"
Review by Linda Yau Gary is stuck spending his Christmas holidays with his grandmother. Thinking that this would be a boring holiday, he was pleasantly surprised when the errands turned out to be amusing. Errant running also had him meeting Troy the hunky neighborhood gym trainer who is interested in him - an exercise deficient teacher. This is a one shot holiday story in about 26 pages. Like many of the other e-books I have read and reviewed, Christmas with Gary is one of the shorter ones with a clear beginning, middle and end written. There are no clear or dramatic conflicts and what you read is what you would expect. The blurb that introduces the story gave away a cheesy snap crackle and pop story. The written dialogue is sweetly written. There were several scenes of witty dialogue between Gary and his grandmother as Gary seeks the advice of his grandmother, while she is on her trips with her friends. There is toward the ending of the story, where there are sex scenes in the story. A slight complaint, that there weren’t any distinguishing characteristics for passage of time at the last scene of the story. This story is recommended for people who like to read stories where there is just sweetness and no distinguishable conflicts with the character’s relationship. Available directly from Torquere Press.
